In 2025, Maker’s Mark and Keeneland Race Course released the second bottle in their “Greats of the Gate” commemorative series, honoring the legendary 19th-century racehorse Lexington during the city’s 250th anniversary celebration. Launched on April 11 to coincide with the $650,000 Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) at Keeneland’s Spring Meet, the limited-edition bottle pays tribute to the horse known as the “Iron Horse,” who won six of seven races and became the highest-priced American stud of his era. Featuring artwork by Kentucky artist Tyler Robertson and adorned with Lexington’s signature orange and black silks, each bottle is a collector’s piece dipped in orange wax and topped with a white silk ribbon. More than a celebration of bourbon and equine history, the initiative aims to raise $4 million over ten years for Kentucky nonprofits, reinforcing the state’s deep cultural and philanthropic roots.
