J.W. Dant Bourbon began in 1836 when Joseph Washington Dant started distilling in Nelson County, Kentucky, using a handmade log still. The Dant family became prominent in bourbon, later launching brands like Yellowstone. Though Prohibition disrupted operations, the J.W. Dant brand survived and was eventually acquired by Heaven Hill in the 1990s, which still produces a Bottled-in-Bond version today. Meanwhile, descendant Wally Dant revived the family legacy by founding Log Still Distillery in Gethsemane, KY, on historic Dant land. While Log Still can’t use the J.W. Dant name, it honors the lineage with brands like Monk’s Road and Rattle & Snap.
