Boone County Distilling Company traces its roots to 1833, when brothers William and John Snyder converted a steam mill in Petersburg, Kentucky, into what became the Petersburg Distillery—eventually the largest in the state, producing over one million gallons of whiskey annually by the late 19th century. Operations ceased in 1910, and the distillery was dismantled by 1918. In 2015, Jack Wells and Josh Quinn revived the Boone County Distilling Company in Independence, Kentucky, honoring that legacy with the motto “Made by Ghosts,” a tribute to the pioneers of early bourbon-making. Today, the distillery produces small-batch spirits including its flagship Eighteen 33 bourbon, blending historical reverence with modern craftsmanship.
