Maker’s Mark is a renowned bourbon brand that traces its origins back to 1953 when it was founded by Bill Samuels Sr. in Loretto, Kentucky. Distinctive for its handcrafted approach and iconic red wax seal, Maker’s Mark stands out as a premium bourbon known for its smoothness and flavor. The recipe, crafted by Bill Samuels Sr. with the help of a chemist, features a high wheat content, resulting in a sweeter, more mellow taste compared to traditional bourbon recipes. Maker’s Mark has remained family-owned and operated, adhering to its founder’s vision of producing exceptional whiskey using time-honored methods. Today, it remains a beloved favorite among bourbon enthusiasts worldwide, revered for its quality and craftsmanship. The 2013 Maker’s Mark Dan Issel commemorative bottle is a limited-edition release honoring Dan Issel, a University of Kentucky basketball legend and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer. Released in April 2013 as part of Maker’s Mark’s annual charitable series with Keeneland Race Course and UK HealthCare, the bottle supported the Gill Heart Institute, raising approximately $175,000 to benefit cardiovascular care and outreach across Kentucky. Featuring a frosted design and sealed with blue wax to reflect Issel’s UK legacy, the bottle was one of 20,000 produced and was accompanied by a signing event during the $300,000 Maker’s 46 Mile (G1) race at Keeneland.
